Motorcyclist Escaped With His Life

On Friday, August 7, a motorcyclist escaped with his life.

According to Slidell police, the accident happened on Friday evening at the intersection of Highway 190W and Carnation Street. The police believe that an 18 wheeler semi trailer being driven by 56 year old Timothy Duimstra of Hudsonville, Michigan, veered off the highway and ran over a motorcyclist who was waiting to turn and was stationary on Carnation Street. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike, and the semi then drove over the bike and it became lodged under the vehicle.

When the police arrived, the motorcyclist, a 50 year old male, was on the side of the road and he was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans in a critical condition, suffering from serious injuries.

The police suspect Duimstra of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol and blood samples were taken from both him and the motorcycle rider, although the latter is not suspected of being impaired.

Duimistra has been charged with negligent injury, a first degree felony, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and driving while intoxicated.
