On Wednesday, April 29, following a car crash in Mandeville, a female passenger died.
According to State Police, the accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. on U.S. 190 near Fontainebleau State Park. A Nissan Maxima being driven by 35 year old Miles B. Wood, was traveling west and according to witnesses he was within the 55 mph speed limit. His front seat passenger was 33 year old Jennifer L. Gibson, of Ponchatoula.
In front of them and moving more slowly than them was an 18 wheel Freightliner being driven by 35 year old Troy A. Brigham of Dallas. As the distance closed between them, Wood failed to brake and smashed into the rear of the Freightliner’s trailer.
Gibson was not wearing a seat belt and she suffered severe injuries. She was transported to Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans where she died. Brigham was uninjured.
The police do not think impairment was involved and a voluntary breath test on Brigham did not detect any alcohol. However the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory will still carry out blood analysis on Wood.
